Hugo Chiarella
Co-Artistic Director

Originally from Australia and now based in London, Hugo has worked as a producer, writer, director and performer. He is currently resident director on the West End production of The Phantom of the Opera and was formerly resident director on the UK tour of Les Miserables.

Hugo was formerly the development producer for Fuel, overseeing their artist development programme as well as an extensive slate of new work. Hugo produced the web series As Actors – Manila (official Rio Webfest, the Armacord Arthouse Film and Video Awards and The LA Cinefest). He also worked as assistant producer for The Darlinghurst Theatre Company in Sydney.

As a writer Hugo wrote the book and lyrics for the musical DreamSong (Arts Centre Melbourne, Theatreworks, VCA), book and lyrics for the musical Evie May (Hayes Theatre, New Musicals Australia) and lyrics for Guilty Pleasures (Blue Saint productions, Hayes Theatre).

As a performer, he has appeared as Grantaire in Les Miserables (West End, International tour, Australian Tour) Mendel in Fiddler on the Roof (Australasian tour) and hosted the children’s TV series Magical Tales: Surprises.

Hugo also writes, performs and produces sketch comedy with I’m With Stupid; their work has been featured on ABC, ABC2, Funny or Die and The Big Smoke. 

He has a BA in Music Theatre from the Victorian College of the Arts and an MA in Creative Producing from the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama.

Gabrielle Scawthorn
Co-Artistic Director

Originally from Australia, Gabrielle trained at NIDA and has since studied with The Atlantic Theatre Company (US). Some of her theatre credits include: The Apologists (The Omnibus Theatre, VAULT Festival), The Underpants (Seymour Centre), Stop Kiss (Unlikely Productions - Sydney Theatre Award Nomination), Young Tycoons (Darlinghurst Theatre Co), Young and Jackson (45 Downstairs) Ride and Fourplay (Darlinghurst Theatre Company) Bloodbank (Ensemble), Love's Labours Lost (Sport for Jove), Shakespearealism (Sport for Jove), Hurt (Old 505, Belvoir), E-Baby (Ensemble - Broadway World Award Nomination), Village Bike (Red Line Productions, Cross Pollinate Productions - Sydney Theatre Award Nomination, Broadway World Award Nomination), Darja in Ironbound (KXT Bakehouse),(Sydney Theatre award nom) Ear To The Edge of Time (Sport For Jove).

TV credits: The Killing Fields (Cornerstone/Channel 7), Doctor Blake Mysteries (ABC), Freshblood (ABC2, ABC iView), Deadly Women (Beyond Entertainment). Film: Dick’s Clinic (Smack Art). Gabrielle also writes, performs and produces sketch comedy with I’m With Stupid; their work has been featured on ABC, ABC2, Funny or Die and The Big Smoke. 

Gabrielle directed the musical Death Suits You (Camden Fringe Festival - OFFEST Nomination) and co-wrote the play 1&Only (2020 VAULT Festival). She is also a sought after workshop facilitator and acting coach.

Gabrielle currently moves between London and Sydney.
